  • How Do I Know if My Insurance Will Cover Windshield Repairs?
In Utah, rock chips are a "no-fault" claim, which means your comprehensive insurance should cover rock chip repair. If you want to be certain, you can call your insurance's glass claim number, which you can find online, the back of your insurance card, or using the link at the bottom of this FAQ. When you call your insurance about your coverage or to file your claim, you may hear something like: "We work with certain preferred shops as part of our glass repair program, such as [insert network partner like Safelite or LYNX]. However, you're free to choose any shop you'd like." It's important to remember that you are not required to use the insurance's preferred vendors. You have the right to choose the repair shop that best fits your needs. If you decide to work with a shop outside of their preferred network (like Chip Pro), your insurance will still cover the cost of repairs under your comprehensive policy, and you won’t need to pay anything out of pocket if you're fully covered. Just make sure you ask about the shop’s warranty policies, as they can vary. Take a look at our insurance page, which has the phone numbers, online glass claim pages, and apps for all major insurances and local Utah providers, to find out if your insurance will cover rock chip repair.
  • Can I Choose A Different Repair Shop Than What My Insurance Recommends?
Yes, you can!
  • How Big Can a Chip Be Before It Can't Be Repaired?
We can fix cracks smaller than the size of a dollar bill (about 6 inches) and rock chips as big as a quarter. If it's larger than that, insurance won't cover it and it might be time to look at windshield replacement.
  • How Long Will My Repair Hold?
The repair will hold for life! Less than 2% of our chip repairs fail, meaning the chip spreads into a crack and you have to replace your windshield. In that case, we don't charge anything for the chip repair. If you have already paid for the repair, we will refund you in full.
  • Will the Chip Disappear After You're Done?
Some will look like they've disappeared, but not all do. However, it will look significantly better and most importantly, will not spread!
  • How Much Does Rock Chip Repair Cost?
If you make a claim through your comprehensive insurance, it will be free to you! Utah passed a law stating that no-fault glass claims (rock chip repairs fall under that) won't raise your monthly premiums. If you do not have insurance or don't want to file a claim, the first chip will cost $65, out the door. If you have additional chips, it will cost $5 for each additional chip.
  • Will Filing a Glass Claim Raise My Premium?
As a general rule, no. "An insurance company can't jack up your premium because of any claim where you are not at fault" (KSL News, September 2023). Rock chips fall under no-fault glass claims. Please call your insurer with any questions or concerns.
  • How Long Does a Repair Take? Do I Have to Stay With You?
Each chip takes about 15-20 minutes to repair. As long as your car is unlocked and we've taken care of filing the claim through your insurance, you're free to go inside or leave us to do the job.
  • Do I Need to Come Into a Shop or Will You Come to Me?
We come to you! Just pick a location that works for you, whether it's your house, work parking lot, a grocery store, park, or any public place.
  • Where Do You Service?
We service most cities in Utah County, specifically (from north to south) Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Vineyard, Orem, Provo, Springville, Palmyra, Lake Shore, Mapleton, and Spanish Fork.
  • Do You Offer a Warranty?
Yes, if any chip we service spreads, we provide a full refund. If the repair was paid through insurance, we refund them.
